About Waterford Floodlit Soccer

The Waterford Floodlit Soccer League was formed in August 2002 following the collapse of Nightowls International Leagues PLC. The FSL quickly filled the void and steadily grew in size and popularity. Nightowls was originally set up for retired and older players but in its new format, the FSL developed to cater for all ages, grades and abilities by providing a competitive game of eleven a side football, Monday to Friday, all year round on astro turf pitches.

Now named Waterford Floodlit Soccer, we remian locally based and owned and our continued success can be attributed to many factors. Simplicity is the key. Anyone can join or enter a team with no need for committees, grounds or other complications.

Waterford Floodlit Soccer is unique in the fact that it is self regulated and doesn't have an affiliation to UEFA, FIFA or any other governing body. This means that our league is free to quickly adjust rules and regulations to suit demands.

Apart from having a guaranteed weekly game all participants also enjoy other benefits including:

  • Free first treatment with our health partner, East West Clinic.

  • Full fixture list issued before first match to allow forward planning.

  • Exclusive offers and discounts with our sports partner, Errea.

  • Competing against teams of similar ability.

  • Free website advertising.

  • Clearly defined and applied rules and regulations.

The website is an integral part of the continued success of Waterford Floodlit Soccer by offering its members something that other leagues can only dream about. The site is updated every day and teams can log on to view league tables, fixtures, results, goalscorers, plus many other features including competitions and an extensive archive section.

New Players, Managers and Referees are always welcome in Waterford Floodlit Soccer so why not get involved?

Important Notes

  • Teams will give themselves the best possible chance of avoiding walkovers by having a big enough squad of players to cover injuries, holidays and clashes with other sports.

  • Mergers are a good solution for teams that want to join but do not have enough players and you can contact us to find out more about joining up with teams in similar positions.

  • Individuals are very welcome and we will assist players in finding suitable teams. Small groups and individuals may also form a new team providing a manager is appointed.

  • Junior League Premier players and League of Ireland players are excluded from most leagues to maintain a fair standard for the majority of participants.

  • Leagues run for approximately 12  weeks.

  • Advance registration & payment is operating to provide a more secure participation commitment for everyone involved.

  • Having both a team manager and assistant is strongly advised.

  • A guide to managing team finances is available to download by clicking here and if you need any help or advice on setting up your team please don't hesitate to contact Kevin.
